30 agosto Holz Hausen-Wood Pile pic's All hands have been busy the past month preparing for a cozy winter. Nothing like a fire in the fireplace for a romantic evening. The fancy wood pile is called Holz Hausen (I think thats right spelling.) Seven foot circle of wood stacked seven feet high with split wood, bark up roof to be added when pile reaches the top of the pole. The orange paint mark near top is supposed to be visable to indicate dry wood after wood pile shrinks during the drying process. Wood in center of pile is stacked vertically to act as a chimney for faster drying. Air in sides and out top. Note ranch hand Tin Boy gurading wood in almost finished pile picture. He is a good hand. Works long hours and never complains. 12 luglio HAPPY BIRTHDAY USA All ranch hands including Head Honcho and the Foreman took a well deserved vacation over the 4th.
The beautiful white sand beaches of southern Alabama served as a family "get to gether". All enjoyed the time off with lots of sun, fun, eats, sleep, beach walks, shopping and fireworks. 30 maggio Deck Done, Shower 1/2 DoneDeck finally finished and outdoor shower now about half done, stilll needs privacy wall and perm. water connection to ranch house system and gravel floor around base. 11 aprile DANCING DECK After five long days the DANCING DECK is complete except for railing and steps. We call it the DANCING DECK because it is so big. So BAR BOB is just about all decked out. One for wood shop 12x12, outdoor kitchen10x22, dancing 24x24and a 4X8 bridge connecting outdoor kitchen to dancing deck. Now if the Foreman would just learn how to dance! 31 marzo LAND & DECKS Another month gone and a lot was accomplished. Basic land clearing project is complete except for burning. Two monster piles and numerous scattered stacks are drying out and should be ready to burn in a few months. In a month or so will begin selecting larger trees for removal based on health and type.
Wall one on the tractor barn was finished.
Deck project is now underway with outdoor kitchen done except for railing. This weekend the main deck, 28x28, will have over forty posts set and basic framing done. Look for pictures of main deck early next week. 06 febbraio ROOF DONE Roof on the tractor barn is finally done and one half of one wall siding is up. Siding on two walls should be finished next weekend. Doors on front will take a little longer as I still havn't figured out how to build them.
Land clearing never seems to end. Spent many hours moving trees to the burn pile, mowing underbrush and more hours cutting and splitting fire wood for the fire place. Once the burn pile dries out it should be quite a fire. Pile now is about twenty by twenty and over ten feet high. Can't seem to keep up with fireplace wood. We have a fire almoset every evening after dinner and usually there is one buring from after breakfast till bedtime on weekends. 26 gennaio January 2006 Suzie started the new year off with a very big mower. You can see the mower attached to the rear of the tractor. The gizmo in front is called a loader. It will be used for moving lots of dirt, fire wood, building roads and hiking paths around the ranch. Planned soon are tractor attachments for starting a garden, laying underground pipe and cable and hauling logs out of the woods, building a bridge and probably even a two or three acre lake in the back (once I am retired or working less than full time.)
In the first day of use I was able to clear more land than I did by hand in a whole year.
First new project for me in 2006 is to build a tractor and junk storage barn. Will post new pictures as it progresses.
